Anti-theodicy: A No-thought Position on Evil

Abstract

Theodicy has long been held a plausible explanation of God and evil. This paper presents a position called anti-theodicy which argues that theodicies are ambitious, defective and reinforce moral biases. It also qualifies that while theodicies trivialize suffering through constructs or systems that explain suffering away, anti-theodicy is a “no-thought” position on the problem of evil, similar to the approaches of Buddhism and Daoism.
